I have twenty-nine years’ experience as a science teacher, the last twenty as Curriculum Leader for science at Carmel College, whose students in the 2016 PISA tests scored higher for science than the average for any country in the world. I have had extensive involvement in Initial Teacher Training, led the regional Triple Science “Network of Excellence” and Carmel is a partner school for the Institute of Physics. As an “Expert Curriculum Leader”, I am leading the Tees Valley Educational Improvement Board’s science curriculum group. I am a current Assessment Specialist for OCR and have been a school governor for nearly twenty years, including two spells as chair."
The SLP offers a range of support and guidance to enhance the teaching and learning of STEM subjects. From CPD to STEM Ambassadors, all of our programmes are designed to have a positive impact on teachers, technicians and others working with young people. We are dedicated to providing high-quality support to educators, ensuring young people receive the best possible STEM education.
As well as an extensive range of CPD courses for individual teachers, we can offer bespoke packages of training and support tailored to anything from a single science department to a whole MAT. The SLP runs subject networks for science at both primary and secondary levels; we offer support with a range of enrichment activities from STEM clubs to the Polar Explorer programme; and we enable groups of schools and colleges to work together to improve young people's achievement and engagement in STEM by facilitating and supporting Enthuse Partnerships.
